Hypnotherapy

More and more people are discovering hypnotherapy as a comfortable and effective method for addressing emotional and psychosomatic issues. In hypnosis, you use your imagination to create changes in your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. The effect increases when you practice the learned hypnosis techniques at home after each session.
Hypnotherapy combined with cognitive-behavioural therapy is effective for many people dealing with anxiety or phobias. With classical medical hypnosis, we see good results for psychosomatic issues such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The number of sessions typically ranges between six and ten.
For quitting smoking, I use a short-term program that combines cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, and hypnosis.
Hypnosis for anxiety or phobias
Perhaps you are afraid of certain situations, worried about what others think of you, feel unsafe, or experience panic attacks. When anxiety persists for a long time, it indicates a vicious cycle. While your fear is rooted in past experiences, your coping style and safety or avoidance behaviours also play a role.
Hypnotherapy is based on a few key principles. The first is deep physical relaxation, which helps regulate your autonomic nervous system, making your internal alarm less likely to go off. We also use imaginary exposure to situations that trigger your anxiety. In deep hypnotic relaxation, you face these situations with focus and imagination. This is done step by step, helping you gradually manage them more effectively.

A hypnosis session in practice
A typical session follows this structure:
- First, we discuss how you are feeling and what we will work on during the session.
- After that, hypnosis begins with relaxation suggestions, directing your attention to physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts.
- Once in hypnosis, you follow therapeutic suggestions tailored to the session’s goal.
- Finally, you come out of hypnosis, and we discuss your experiences and insights.
- You will usually receive an audio recording of the session to practice self-hypnosis at home.
