The program I offer is based on years of scientific research by psychology professors Joseph Green and Steven Jay Lynn. Its high success rate comes from the combination of proven methods: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and hypnosis.

The program

This program includes four coaching sessions, a workbook, and two audio recordings for you to listen to daily at home for two weeks.

  • Week 1, preparation session

After signing up, you will fill out an online intake form at home.
In this 60-minute session, we explore your smoking history, your motivation, and your expectations. I will also answer any questions you may have.

  • Week 2, session 1: learning the strategies

This 75-minute session is where we get to work. You will begin with exercises from the workbook to help you better understand your smoking patterns, what triggers them, and what you need to change your behaviour. I will explain what clinical hypnosis is, and you will learn how to use self-hypnosis to give yourself supportive suggestions for a smoke-free life. After the session you will receive an MP3 audio recording to listen to at home daily, and you will complete additional workbook tasks, including finding a support buddy.

  • Week 3, session 2: quit for good

In this 75-minute session, we check in: how was your past week? Did you smoke? What situations were challenging, and how did you handle them? Did you use the audio regularly? Then we move into the second hypnosis session, which is longer and more powerful than the first. You will receive a 35-minute MP3 to continue listening to at home daily for at least a week 

After this session, your ‘Quit Smoking for Good’ date has officially begun. From this point on, your goal is to never smoke again.

  • Week 5, follow-up session

Two weeks later, we meet again for a 60-minute follow-up session. We will discuss how you have been doing and, if helpful, you will receive a third hypnosis session to support your ongoing commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

Frequently asked questions

In some cases, yes. My sessions are partially reimbursed by many Dutch health insurers under the additional package for alternative care. If you are unsure, feel free to give me a quick call to discuss your situation.
The behaviour change strategies and hypnosis techniques used in this program are widely practiced and considered safe.

Some people do experience mild withdrawal symptoms when quitting smoking, such as irritability or cravings — this is normal. These symptoms are temporary and manageable. The program is designed to minimize these effects and teaches you techniques to handle them effectively.

No experience is needed. You will learn how to make the suggestions work for you during the sessions. It is also important to know that hypnosis is just one part of a broader, multi-method approach that supports you in quitting smoking.
Hypnosis in this program emphasizes personal control and awareness. You are always free to accept or ignore suggestions—you remain fully in control of your thoughts and actions.

After each session, you will receive an MP3 audio recording with guided hypnosis to listen to daily at home. These recordings reinforce your motivation and determination to quit, and help you stay focused on your smoke-free goals. They also use positive visualisation: imagining yourself in pleasant situations and successfully resisting the urge to smoke. You will learn helpful strategies to make better decisions, structure your day, and lean on support from others.

No, it is not required. In fact, if you smoke half a pack or less per day, nicotine replacement is generally not recommended. The program already offers effective behavioural strategies to help you manage cravings. However, if you are a heavier smoker, combining this program with nicotine replacement products may improve your chances of quitting. These products can help with intense cravings.
That’s up to you. If you prefer not to use nicotine replacement, you can quit cold turkey or taper off gradually. Gradual reduction often leads to fewer withdrawal symptoms than quitting all at once. Many people choose to reduce smoking over a week to 10 days, by cutting down 10–15% each day until they reach zero. Some participants begin reducing before their first session, while others start between the first and second session. Either way, the goal is to be fully ready to quit by your second treatment date.

Yes, it is a good idea to inform your doctor before starting the program—especially if you are considering nicotine replacement or have health concerns related to exercise or diet changes. The program encourages a balanced lifestyle: light physical activity (like walking), healthy eating, and plenty of rest.
